Streetwork Courses

As part of our training services, London & Kent Safety AT Ltd will provide on-site instructors nationwide. Not only does this offer direct training for employees using the machinery or tools they are already familiar with, there are no travelling costs for employers to consider.

The aim of these courses is to provide the individual with the knowledge and skills to conduct all streetwork duties in accordance with the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 (NRSWA). In doing so, those participating will be fully capable of safeguarding themselves and others in the course of their work.

Each course will be followed by an assessment to ensure the individual possesses complete comprehension of the material covered.

This course is relevant to the following operatives who actively work on, or adjacent to, public roads as outlined by the NRSWA:

  • Contractors or Sub-Contractors
  • Local Authorities Employees
  • Utility Company Employees

Following the Street Works Operative Initial Qualifications, individuals will comprehend:

  • The relevant health and safety legislation outlined in the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991
  • All PPE and safety equipment necessary for the jobs in hand
  • How best to conduct safety measures
  • What documentation to refer to in relation to legislation

Course Content

  • Certificate in Sign, Lighting and Guarding (Unit 02)
  • Excavation in the road/Highway (Units 01-03)
  • Excavation, Backfilling and Reinstatement of Construction Layers with a Cold-lay Bituminous Surface (Units 01-06)
  • Reinstatement of Construction Layers in Hot-lay and Cold-lay Bituminous Materials (Units 01-02,06-07)
  • Reinstatement of Modular Surfaces and Concrete Footways (units 01-02 and 09)
  • Concrete Road Slabs (Unit 07)

The Street Works Qualification Register (SWQR) card issued upon successful completion of this course expires after 5 years. Following this, operatives must attend, and pass, a refresher course before another card is awarded.

This course is relevant to operatives who have previously participated in the Street Works Operative Initial Qualifications course, and hold a current Street Works card. The Street Works Operative Re-Assessed Qualifications course must be passed before the card’s expiry date to continue working within the sector as certificated. Operatives now have 5 years from expiry to sit the refresher if for some reason they fail to renew at the time of expiry Upon completion, individuals will have updated knowledge of:

  • Re-assessed Certificate in Sign, Lighting and Guarding (Unit 102)
  • Re-assessed Excavation in the road/Highway (Units 101-103)
  • Re-assessed Excavation, Backfilling and Reinstatement of Construction Layers with a Cold-lay Bituminous Surface (Units 101-106)
  • Re-assessed Reinstatement of Construction Layers in Hot-lay and Cold-lay Bituminous Materials (Units 101-102,106-107)
  • Re-assessed Reinstatement of concrete Slabs (Units 101-102 and 108)
  • Re-assessed Reinstatement of Modular Surfaces and Concrete Footways (units 101-102 and 109)
  • Concrete Road Slabs (Unit 07)

This course is relevant to supervisors who oversee all operatives who actively work on, or adjacent to, public roads as outlined by the NRSWA.

  • Outlining the requirements of the current New Roads and Street Works Act 1991
  • Selecting the PPE and safety equipment necessary for the jobs in hand
  • Conducting the appropriate safety measures for all concerned
  • Supervising works carried out by the relevant operatives to ensure they are in accordance with current legislation

Course Content

  • Monitoring Certificate in Sign, Lighting and Guarding (Unit 10)
  • Monitoring Excavation in the road/Highway (Units 01,10-11)
  • Monitoring Excavation, Backfilling and Reinstatement of Construction Layers with a Cold-lay Bituminous Surface (Units 01,10-14)
  • Monitoring Reinstatement of Construction Layer Bituminous Materials (Units 01,10 and 14)
  • Reinstatement of Modular Surfaces and Concrete Footways (units 01,10 and 16)
  • Concrete Road Slabs (Unit 07)
